Riverton, NJ
Riverton Borough, Riverton, NJ, was established in 1851. Located in Burlington County , this humble town is located on the Delaware River. With its old fashioned sidewalks, gas lamps, and victorian-styled architecture, the town continues to maintain its own one-of-a-kind charm through the years. Its feeling of care within the community make Riverton an attractive place to live. Having great respect for patriotism, the town remains to proud of both its WWII veterans and home-town soldiers who fought in the war.
Riverton has expanded greatly and systematically over the past decades, and today it is almost completely developed. The population is currently slightly more than 3,000 and changes are generally due to growing and developing generations. It is home to the Riverton Yacht Club which is one of the oldest and still active yacht clubs in the nation. Several sailboats still reside along the bordering Delaware River and it proves to be a wonderful natural landscape and tourist site. In the downtown area, the newly installed Riverline Light Rail system provides public transport to nearby larger cities, like Camden and Trenton. Above all, Riverton's Historical Society tops all of its other accomplishments. The pictures they have gathered are stunning and provide family trees for all residents who can look back at these photographs. It's a symbol that Riverton has not forgotten about the past and instead cherish it with their hearts.

Memorial park
Memorial Day 2011
After Riverton's Memorial Park opened in 1931, several town activities and festivities moved to the new location. It was built to commemorate and honor all the men and women who had either offered their services to the nation or had fought in the US military. Located in the heart of the city, the park offers picnic areas, a playground, baseball diamonds, basketball and tennis courts, soccer fields, and the Delaware River nearby. Several celebrations and events take place here, one of the most popular being the finale of the 4th of July Parade for Children. Above all of the things the park is know for, it is especially significant due its Memorial dedicating past and present heroes.
Every Memorial Day, the men in the honor guard bear the colors and give the triple volley rifle salute that is a part of the ceremony which helps us both uplift and comfort our spirits on this special day of remembrance. They carry out their duties in their bold uniforms and military discipline, reminding us of the great sacrifices that American civilians, like Lt. Barclay, made to ensure freedom and comfort for the people of tomorrow. The ceremony certainly would not be nearly as memorable nor emotional without these brave veterans who know give their time volunteering to perform these services at honors for deceased veterans.
And among the names listed on the monument include our very own Lt. Richard M. Barclay. The Memorial that honors Lt. Barclay and his accomplishments reminds us that while he is respected in larger monuments and in US territory in France, he is still remembered at home, the place where he first gathered the courage to go fight for his country.
